At MS-TCDC, the President met the Ordinary B.A. students in Development Studies who briefed her on the relevance of this course to their development work. This course is offered in collaboration with Development Studies Centre in Dublin-Ireland. The President also had a discussion on issues of pastoralism with participants from the Pastoralist training course.

Responding to the two groups, President Mary McAleese, reaffirmed Ireland's commitment to continued support for development in areas of good governance, education and gender mainstreaming among others. President McAleese delved into the history of her own country - for Ireland, like Tanzania, knows what it means to be poor. But Ireland has won its battle against poverty.

The president was accompanied by her husband Dr. Martin McAleese and the Irish Minister of State for Overseas Development and Human Rights, Mr. Conor Lenihan as well as the Tanzanian Deputy Minster for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr Cyril A. Chami and the Arusha Regional Commissioner Mr. Abbas Kandoro.
