Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants will have a thorough comprehension of the global trade justice agenda, skills and knowledge to influence ongoing trade negotiations and design pro poor trade interventions and advocacy programmes.

Course Content:

  • Introduction to trade justice: concepts, trade rules & agreements in multi- and bilateral trading systems

  • Roles and rules that govern regional and global trade institutions.

  • Integrating the trade justice agenda with human rights

  • Analysing impact of trade on women, poverty reduction programmes and sustainable development.

  • Influencing trade negotiations in the context of global power relations.

  • Designing trade policy interventions for alternative market models                                                                       

Target Group:

Civil society organisations’ programme officers in development and donor agencies, senior and middle management staff that work on trade issues; leaders and managers from producer, consumer & trade associations; parliamentarians, policy makers & media staff focusing on trade.
