Social Movements
In 2011 TCDC introduces a new concept of short seminars aimed at testing and exploring new fields of Development work.
16th- 18th May
The intention is to bring together between 30 – 70 development practitioners for 3 days from across civil society, government, private sector and academia around well defined new thematic issues and reflective questions – Through well structured reflective processes, we will try to generate new learning and insight for future use in various areas. All participants will receive an end of seminar Learning & Reflection report plus a number of resource materials before, during and after the events. You are free to choose participation in one, two or all three seminars depending on interest and availability.
Seminar key issues & reflective questions
- What are Social Movements, and how do they possibly relate to Development?
- How can social movements contribute to poor people’s access to just and democratic governance?
- Organisation of social movements – how do they form, storm, norm, perform, grow and adjourn?
- Power, rights & social movements in democratisation processes
- Examples of successful and non-successful social movements – any learning?
