About Training for Change

We develop trainings for professionals in the NGO-field, youth from ActionAid’s global youth network Activista, Danish volunteers and for youth from ActionAid’s partner organizations in the global South. Every year, approximately 4000 volunteers and professionals are trained at our Training Centre, TCDC in Tanzania and Global Platforms in Nepal, El Salvador, Jordan, Kenya andTanzania and now also at our new platform in Myanmar.  Other new platforms in areunder development and expected to open in the near future. About the courses

The Global Change (GC) courses seek to enable its participants in a progressive manner to mobilise and organize people to run campaigns and other activities that involve the young people and fight for social justice. The participants of this course is not only trained in social diversities; they will also acquire tools such as project management and coordination, which provides them with competencies in planning campaigns, organizing volunteers and mobilizing to a social cause. The participants will receive training in communication and in the use of new social media, which assists them in building up their projects – and most importantly they are to perform a concrete project as for example a campaign, an event or a lobby sequence. The participants in this course are among others young people from the ActionAid global youth network, Activista, who may have interest in running campaigns.

 

Training of Trainers (ToT) is a 3-weeks course, where you learn how to construct and facilitate workshops, and how to train others.

In addition to that we offer courses within subjects such as Social Entrepreneurship and Video storytelling. All the courses want to engage young people in creating social change and secure that the young people will use the youth centres already present in the region. The material for the courses is developed in cooperation with the other trainers at our platforms.

 

Global Volunteer (GV)  is a 4-weeks introduction course in how to develop volunteer work as a tool to enhance social changes in the local community. After 4 weeks training the participants go off to do volunteer work in for example schools, childcare institutions and hospitals for 3 months. 

 

Global Toolbox  is a set of tools that prepare you for working with youth and social change in your local community and through regional and global networks. Toolbox courses are intensive 5-7 day courses and residential seminars in different topics such as team leadership, campaigning, facilitation, social entrepreneurship and new media. The courses give you the basic tools to engage in struggles for social change, whether it be as a leader, an activist, campaigner or communicator.

 

Besides from these course activities there will also be assignments in connection with different daily activities, such as:

  • Short period workshops and events at the Platform.
  • Administrative assignments in regards to developing, performing and evaluating the courses.
  • Fundraising, PR and recruitment of participants.
  • Cooperation with local partner organizations concerning the content of the courses and the projects.

 

 

Your Profile

 

Training for Change has four general competences as a goal for our trainings. As a trainer at a Global Platform, you are expected to contribute with qualified training within these core competences. Because the trainings are conducted by a team of trainers, you do not need to be an expert within all of these areas. However, you should be qualified within at least three of them. The areas are:

 

  • ANALYSE – In depth knowledge about globalization, development politics, volunteerism and social movements
  • ORGANISE – Knowledge about and experience with forms of organizing, leadership and facilitation
  • COMMUNICATE – Experiences and skills within communication, especially new and creative media, such as video, web, graphic design, theatre etc.
  • ACT – A central component in Training for Change’s training method is the courage to constantly make sure, that the knowledge and skills taught in the trainings are tested in real life, be it in small scale pilot projects or large scale campaigns. 

 

Furthermore we focus on skills within:

 

  • Experience with teaching and planning of courses. Experience with facilitation and participatory teaching methods 
  • An excellent level of English (written and spoken). All trainings are conducted in English.
  • Knowledge of  the regional politics, culture and challenges
  • Knowledge of the geographical regional context (politics and culture)
  • entrepreneur and innovatory skills
  • good interpersonal skills
  • ability to keep an overview of things in regards to many stakeholders and quickly changing conditions and plans
  • culturally sensitivity

 

Employment Conditions

 

  • Expected start of contract:  1st  January 2012
  • The contract period will be 24 months with the possibility of extension.
  • Salaryis according to RAAWU Agreement 2011
  • Diets during the course period on the platform
