2.  Background and Context

The existence of MS TCDC as a training Centre dates back to 1967 and was preceded by the execution of a bilateral agreement between Governments of Denmark and Tanzania to, in the first place, provide Kiswahili language skills and cultural orientation to Danish Volunteers, who came to work in Tanzania and subsequently, those destined to work in other African settings. Since then, the Centre’s role has gradually evolved to incorporate training of civil society practitioners working primarily in Africa and, to some extent, Asia and Latin America.

Over the period of its existence TCDC has played a notable role in the capacity strengthening of the civil society sector in Africa, enabling CSOs and other social justice actors to become key driving forces for positively influencing democratic governance and working towards a better quality of life for all.

In order to deliver on that, MS TCDC offers a range of standard and tailor made trainings, academic programs, Swahili language courses, as well as consultancy and advisory services. Furthermore, we offer Conference, Seminar and Workshop facilities, which benefit from our range of accommodation services.

In 2018, MS TCDC has embarked on a 5 year (2018 – 2022) Strategic Plan that sees it transitioning into a Pan African social justice organization. As such, there is recognition that there is a need to review the range of services that ‘an evolving TCDC’ will need to provide and well as a new identity and brand to complement the transition.

In order to deliver on its strategy, TCDC has developed two Directorates – Programs and Operations. Under the Programs Directorate there are 5 Units (Learning, Knowledge, Intercultural, Communication and Philanthropy) and under the Operations Directorate there are 6 Units (Front Office/Administration, Catering, Facilities, Human Resource, Service Quality and Finance).

The Communication Unit is responsible for all the communication (sales, marketing and public relations) across the organization both internally and externally and currently has 1 permanent staff, 2 interns (4 month cycles) and a support consultant.
