Course Objectives

By participating in the course, Youth Participation and Governance, trainees will acquire in-depth knowledge on how decisions that impact on ordinary people's lives are made  and how such decisions are transformed into action. Through this course, trainees will learn tactics on how to influence public decisions at various stages of decision making process.  Trainees will also acquire knowledge and skills on how to initiate participatory governance activities as a means of empowering youths  to have a 'share' in public decisions  that impact on their lives. 


Course Content

Introduction to the concept of Effective Youth Participation

· Understanding citizen empowerment and the role of civil Society

· Introduction to governance and public decision making processes at local, national and global level

· Understanding Participatory Governance

· Introduction to participatory Governance tools

· Youth participation in Poverty Reduction Strategies (PRSs)

· Introduction to Public Expenditure Tracking Survey (PETS) as a tool for holding decision makers accountable

· Youth Participation in global governance -  Influencing Global Climate Change Policy

· Social  Media as a tool for influencing decision making processes

· Establishing effective local, national and global platforms  for youth participation 


Target Group
Youths from ActionAid Offices and their partner organisations and those attached to civil society organisations
