Course Objectives
By the end of the course participants will be able to discuss and understand the critical components of an effective board, board roles and responsibilities, explore board governance and familiarise themselves with best practices
in board governance. Finally, they will more confidently be able to manage board and executive power balances, efficiency
and transparency.
Course Content
• Governing principles in an organisational context – Latest best practices.
• Basic responsibilities of boards, roles of different members, and the relation to the executive director and daily
management of the institution
• Board dynamics at different stages in the life cycle of an organisation
• Key success factors for an effective board
• Organisational governance skills (strategic performance management, conflict management, setting direction
and integrity management
• Peer to peer discussions, cases and interactive discussions of own experiences and learning – Recent Board
